James E. Demmert - Managing Partner:

Mr. Demmert has been managing investment portfolios for institutional and individual investors for over 15 years. He is experienced in all aspects of investment management including research, trading and portfolio management. He is also a seasoned wealth manager, experienced in the areas of retirement, financial, estate and tax planning. Over the years, Mr. Demmert has been involved with numerous types of investments ranging from fixed income to venture capital.  He also serves as portfolio manager of Partners Fund LP.

 Mr. Demmert has been a featured speaker for a number of public organizations including the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII). Additionally, he has authored numerous articles on finance and investment management and he and his work have appeared in many financial publications including: The Wall Street Journal, Barrons, Business Week and Fortune. He is a member of the CFA Institute, Security Analysts of San Francisco and the Financial Planning Association.

Mr. Demmert’s past experience includes positions with LF Rothschild and Lehman Brothers before starting his own firm in 1993. He graduated from Harvard University.

Tamra A. Stern, J. D. - Partner:

Ms. Stern has been with the firm since its inception and has been involved in many aspects of the investment advisory industry. She currently participates in the firm’s portfolio management process as a co-manager of equity investments and research, as well as serving as an equity trader. Additionally, Ms. Stern takes the lead role in the firm’s retirement, financial and estate planning services. She is experienced in many areas of wealth management, including developing strategies for tax efficiency, cash distributions and future generation planning. Ms. Stern’s most recent published advisory was available on CNN.com.


Ms. Stern received her BA in Political Science from the University of California at Santa Barbara and her Juris Doctorate from Empire College of Law. She is a member of the Financial Planning Association.


Elizabeth I. Baldassari - Partner:

Over the years, Ms. Baldassari has been involved in portfolio administration and operations, as well as investment research and trading. She is experienced in all aspects of the portfolio management process including trade processing and reconciliation, asset transfers, merger and acquisitions and tax lot calculations. Additionally, Ms. Baldassari serves as an equity trader and co-manager of fixed income investments and research.

Ms. Baldassari graduated Cum Laude from Sonoma State University with a BS in Business Administration

Aaron Stern - IT and Research Manager:

Mr. Stern is responsible for the coordination of the firms research processes. This includes the firms in-house investment research as well as management of our outside research partner's analysis. Additionally, Mr. Stern takes the lead role in regard to Main Street's technology systems, including real time security pricing, automated trading, portfolio management and world wide web systems. Mr. Stern also serves as an equity and fixed income trader and coordinator of investment policy.

Prior to joining Main Street Research, Mr. Stern served as Web Operations Manager for a large west coast corporation. He is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara .


Velda V. Brown—Client Services:

Ms. Brown is responsible for client service and relations. This includes coordination of client historical data, account transfer, estate planning documentation and investment policy statements. Ms. Brown also takes part in the firm’s research process and weekly client portfolio reviews.

Prior to joining Main Street Research, Ms. Brown was Manager of Transportation for the city of Gothenburg, Sweden.
